Solution 12280: Calculating Standard Deviation on the TI-30X IIS/B, TI-30XS MultiView™ and TI-34 II Explorer Plus™.
How do I calculate Standard Deviation on the TI-30X IIS/B, TI-30XS MultiView and TI-34 II Explorer Plus?
The example below will demonstrate how to input and calculate standard deviation on the TI-30X IIS/B, TI-30XS MultiView or TI-34 II Explorer Plus.
For TI-30X IIS/B and TI-34 II Explorer Plus users:
Example: Enter the following x variables, and determine the sample and population standard deviations.
x = {1,2,3}
1) Press [2nd], [STAT], and then choose 1-VAR.
2) Press [DATA] and begin to enter the data as indicated. To input a data point, type the value and press [ENTER]. Press the down arrow key to move on to the next data point. Data points alternate between the x value, and the x frequency.
3) [STATVAR] displays the menu of variables with their current values.
Answers should be as follows:
Sx (Sample Standard Deviation) = 1
sx (Population Standard Deviation) = 0.816497
4) Press [2nd] and [EXIT STAT], select Y and press [ENTER] to exit STAT mode.
For TI-30XS MultiView users:
Example: Enter the following x variables, and determine the sample and population standard deviations.
x = {1,2,3}
1) Press [DATA] and begin to enter the data as indicated into the L1, L2 or L3 lists. To input a data point, type the value and press [ENTER]. Press the down arrow key to move on to the next data point.
2) Press [2nd], [STAT], and then choose 1-VAR.
3) For the "DATA" option, choose the listname the data is stored in (L1, L2 or L3). For the "FRQ" option, choose "ONE" since this data does not include a frequency list.
4) Arrow down to "CALC" and press [ENTER].
Answers should be as follows:
3:Sx (Sample Standard Deviation) = 1
4:sx (Population Standard Deviation) = 0.816497
5) Press [2nd] [MODE] to exit STAT mode.
